Catoctin Mountain Park is a really cool park in the north-central area of Maryland. The park is part of the Catoctin Mountain ridge, which is a range in the northeastern part of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Plus, Catoctin Mountain Park is managed by the National Park Service!
I visited this park for a hiking day trip and absolutely loved it! I did the Extended Loop Trail, which is a 9.9-mile trail that combines the park’s three major trail loops. The trail was beautiful and takes you to most of the park’s most scenic spots including Chimney Rock, Thurmont Vista, Wolf Rock, Cunningham Falls, Hog Rock, and Blue Ridge Summit.
The trail was moderately difficult, but well-maintained and really scenic throughout. There were so many interesting things to see along the way!
Here are some highlights from the trail.
