These headbands are the collaboration of two creative, female-owned businesses based in Delaware. Laura is the founder and owner of FashionMeme, a fashion brand that specializes in trendy, handmade clothing. Abby is a photographer and illustrator at AbbyVenture and Abby Shepard Photography. Abby and Laura met at a photoshoot years ago, and have been friends ever since!
For this headband project, they decided to combine their creative abilities to make something that would showcase Delaware in a fun way, and decided on a collection of headbands with Delaware-themed patterns. Abby illustrated the patterns and Laura designed and sewed the headbands. Learn more about each pattern below!
100% of the proceeds from the headband sales will be donated to the Delaware Nature Society to help protect natural lands in Delaware and inspire the next generation to love nature.
Abby and Laura both love the natural and cultural resources that Delaware offers, and wanted to use this project as a way to bring attention to all of the amazing nature that Delaware offers, as well as give back to the community.
I'm a photographer, illustrator, blogger and outdoor enthusiast based in Dover, Delaware. While I'm originally from Ohio, I've lived in Delaware for 4+ years and love the different landscapes in Delaware. I studied visual communication design and environmental design in college, and now I use those skills to connect people to the outdoors. This project was really fun because I got to work with one of my friends and use all of our creative skills.
I am a professional wedding photographer and my illustration work can be found on Society6, Redbubble, and Spoonflower. I've also illustrated three children's books!
I'm a fashion designer with 10+ years experience in the field. My own brand, FashionMeme was launched in 2012 and has been selling directly to customers ever since. I design, cut and sew everything in my Etsy shop myself so it's been fun to collaborate with another creator on this project.
I'm originally from Venezuela, but Delaware has been my home for almost 7 years and we wanted to showcase it in a creative way.
The Delaware Bay is one of the largest spawning grounds in the world for horseshoe crabs! On moonlit nights in May and June, thousands of horseshoe crabs cral ashore to Delaware Bay beaches at high tide to lay their geggs as they have for 450 million years. The horseshoe crabs are sometimes so dense that the water's edge looks like a road paved wtih brown shells.
